Category: Hear No Evil - See No Evil
I saw mention of this, so I got curious this morning and decided to investigate. starkey makes one. (I'm sorry, but I hope I never have to go back to Starkey.) But ReSound also makes one, It's the ReSound LiNX, and I want these. You can adjust the volume, bass and treble and even the amount of noise cancelation through an accessible iOS app. I thought they'd be ten thousand dollars or something, but apparently they start off at about 4000 for the set. Honestly, for as small as they are, and all that they do, that's really not bad. By the time I'm able to afford them, the next generation of products will be out, but this sure seems like a great start.
My brother is trying out a pair of the ReSound hearing aids... they've been taken up by the
Kirkland brand, so you might want to a look to see at what price point Costco is selling them
for.
I've also asked him what he thinks of them... when he gives me his mini-review, I'll pass it
on to you... he only recently got the new ones, but had been wearing ReSound for the past
few years.
RESound is good. I've worn them before.
I'm on my 3rd pair of re-sound hearing aids. The ones I have currently aren't iOS compatible, though the Control app claimes it works with them to a small extent. From the few people I've known who have beta tested them, the Bluetooth connectivity remains an issue, particularly the HA's knowing when to autoconnect or not. Also, battery life was quite an issue last I knew, I had a chat with someone beta testing them back in the fall.
Way to keep the board alive, guys. Right now, I'm trying a set of Phonak Bolero hearing aids; the best thing about these is no feedback, ever. I'm not sure, but I bet you the RESound hearing aids feedback; in any case, I will be testing a pair of them shortly, as I am in the market for new aids and am trying to figure out which ones to purchase, or should I say for the state to buy. ,
Now don't turn around and sell them.
Now, why would I do that?? I'd never sell my aids, ever. I've never sold any state equipment; not sure what it is with you guys, but you always think I' selling state equipment. Not. Never have and never will.
On another note entirely, I wonder if the app is accessible with VO?
if its not Phonak, it never has enough power for me. I need gobs of power.
not only that but I need FM (or now DM) compatibility too. I know the new Phonak, you'll be able to use Roger without a com pilot, so I'm lookin to try new aids out when the new Phonak come out in April or May.
Forgive me, but I don't understand. The Apple device syncs up with the hearing aids without some sort of remote control? Is that how it works?
Most interesting, this is the first time I've heard of it.
Hi. I've been using Rexton Bluetooth-compatible hearing aids for the last four years or so and love them. While I don't use the Bluetooth feature as much as I used to because of a change in circumstances, it works great with your iPhone and you can hear phone calls in both ears and even cut out environmental noise if it's too distracting. They're around $4,000, but since they're four years old already I'm sure that there's newer, and maybe better, technology available now. Good luck to you.
Yes, you can adjust them with your iOS device. I've heard that the app is pretty accessible, though not entirely perfect. It would just be great to adjust the equalizers on the fly like that!
My old aids came with a remote with a treble booster, but not these new ones. The old ones also had stereo sound for the wireless music setting.
Hi all. Not sure if anyone uses, or has used Odicon hearing aids? Not sure when I'll be getting some more, or how much they would be, but does anyone know if odcon makes iPhone compadible hearing aids? From what I've been hearing, Phonnac is good. Sorry, I know I'm not spelling their name right. And I think they would be a good bet when I get a new pare. Also, in ear is very nice, so if anyone could let me know, that would be awesome! Smiles
TO my knowledge, Odicon is not yet making hearing aids that are compatible with iOS directly. You'd have to use a streamer to interface with the 2 devices. I have a pair of Phonaks that are not iOS compatible directly, but I love the ComPilot. As for the Re-Sound app, if you're talking about the app called control, it does have some minor VoiceOver issues, but is usable.
Thanks for the info! Ponak is one hearing aid I'll be looking at. It seems like my hearing has just taken another dip down, and I am not yet sure if I can get unother pare, or if these can be upped some. The palm pilet sounds like a grate drvice though. I read about it somewhere on access world.
Really? I didn't know Access World did an article on it. I thought about doing one of my own, as it's a good device, but could see a few improvement. I wish there was a sort of advanced mode on hearing aids for people who know what they want as they need it. For example, the ComPilot coupled with the Phonak hearing aids I have doesn't give me the option to either have the hearing aids mics to listen to the environment or to turn them off. This would be very helpful to have. The other draw back is that when speech is turned on with the ComPilot, it cuts out noise around you and waits until after it's done talking to actually start to do the switch. I'm considering having my audiologist turn this feature off, because the delay is very long.
And the streamer sucks. Only comes through in mono.
Really? Thanks for thagt too. Its not cheep, and I was trying to figure out if it was for me.
The ComPilot comes through in stereo and sounds pretty good actually. Thanks for the info about the Streamer, I did not know that.
I had all speech turned off on my ComPilot. Oh god "Audio jack" and "ComPilot on" and "Bluetooth audio" just shut up! shut up shut up shut up! I know i know i know already! now that the only thing i have turned on is a Low Battery worning, everything is great.
Since I just got these this summer, I probably wont be getting new aids until a few years from now. who knows what will chane then
The ComPilot is what i use do for a speech on calls or Skype or whatever, but people say I sound horrible on Skype with that thing. It works well for podcasts too, music is bearable, but nothing like I like hearing.
It'd be nice to be able to t turn on and off the background noise at w will without having to go in for programming.
hello all my aids workingbut have to use a phone clip. to pair the phone with the aids. hope this heps.
Well, I got a pair of ReSound aids. For a while, I loved them--recently, however, VoiceOver connects to the phone and a weird noise can be heard. It still does it even with my new phone! I have a video that I will have to figure out how to post so that you guys can hear it. On another note, even though the trebel and bass can be adjusted with Resound aids, it seems the modifications do not improve the quality of music. Battery life remains to be a constant issue, and the best solution is to purchase 50 of them from Amazon. With the Phonak aids, at least they had some bass. It is virtually non-existent with Resound. Because my audiologist did not disclose how long the trial period lasted, I'm sure they are non-returnable. Another glitch (which I think Phonak has too) is that when no audio is coming through the Com Pilot, doesn't the aids disable Bluetooth? With ReSound and IOS, the Bluetooth stops and cuts off if there is 3 seconds of inactivity. It doesn't interfere with dictation, but can sometimes, which is a real pain in the ass. With Resound and IOS, you also have to purchase a $225.00 device, that doesn't even come through as stereo called a Phone Clip +. Other wise, you always have to hold the phone in your hand. I mean, come on. Also, the only method of making the app 100% accessible is to use the rotor for VoiceOver and change it to audio settings. The adjustment period, if you want to adjust something, takes forever, unless you have geo-tagging for places enabled. I'd rather have a completely Bluetooth-enabled aid. I don't think any will sound good with music, and that is ashamed, since it is not enjoyable anymore. Headphones are even bad. My aids also feedback when people speak, or when I talk. Would not recommend. Sound quality is fine, features poorly implemented. Does anyone use headphones with their aids?
Nathan.
